Dance Physiotherapy

Dancing can produce a great strain upon the body due to the complex nature of the movements, and young dancers often suffer the consequences with sore joints, strained muscles or more serious injuries. Dancers need to be treated very differently to a ‘normal’ person with pain as (depending on their level of performance) the range of motion and strength required to get back to full function is far greater than most people think possible! It is also a priority that time off dancing is kept to a minimum. All of our therapists have danced in different dance styles and to a very high level. This gives them a profound understanding of what is required to get you back on stage as quickly as possible. Many dance injuries occur due to muscle imbalances, reduced range of motion or repetative poor technique. After years of working closely with dancers, our therapists have developed ‘eagle eyes’ for determining any weaknesses or technical faults that may be contributing to your pain. This also allows them the added benefit of improving technique in the absence of injury. Students often come for appointments solely focused on getting more turnout, more flexibility or 'better feet', and are astounded by how quickly they get results.

We provide special services to dancers including:

  • Pre Pointe Assessments
  • Vocational Dance Screening Assessments
  • Technique Analysis
  • Conditioning Program Development
  • Flexibility Training
  • Strengthening for Pointe Work
