Dislocation
Dislocation A shoulder dislocation is normally a memorable event often associated with direct trauma. However, some flexible people can dislocate their shoulders spontaneously. If the incident is bad enough surgery may be required to repair torn structures, however a lot of the time conservative treatment with physiotherapy provides fantastic results. The main symptoms are pain and loss of movement. As swelling and pain have a negative effect on how muscles function, it is important to minimise these symptoms so as to prevent further shoulder problems. Even a small dislocation or subluxation can lead to further complications if the muscles alter how they function, so it is therefore important to seek help early on. Treatment should consist of corrective strengthening and return to activity/sport.
